The effectiveness of antibiotics has been greatly compromised by the ability of pathogens to develop antibiotic resistance.

Each year in the US, about 2 million people acquire serious bacterial infections that are resistant to one or more prescribed antibiotics and at least 23,000 people die as a result of these antibiotic-resistant infections. The misuse of antibiotics has widespread implications for the US population, including increased mortality rates and longer, more frequent hospital stays.

Antibiotic resistance occurs when a pathogen genetically adapts to the drug(s) designed to destroy it. These genetic variations are defense mechanisms that can cause the drug(s) to be ineffective. Unfortunatlely, these variations can easily be passed to other pathogens through reproduction or acquisition.

NCF has developed tests to identify genetic variations that allow pathogens to become resistant to antibiotics. This information is instrumental to the provider when trying to select an effective antibiotic regimen for the patient.

It is our goal at OnPoint Lab Services to offer providers access to technology that will empower them to practice precision medicine.

Molecular testing for pathogen identification can replace the conventional method of culture and sensitivity.

PCR is a molecular technique that analyzes the genetic material in pathogens quickly and easily indicate the patient’s therapy.

NCF Diagnostics utilizes Real-Time PCR Technology to precisely identify pathogens.
